Overview

The Diploma (Associate of Science Degree) in Business Administration – Accounting concentration provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge in financial and managerial accounting.

The program is designed to equip students with analytical, technical, and critical thinking skills, and to support them in the decision-making process through innovative effective learning methodologies and exposure to real-life situations.

Program Educational Objectives

Understand accounting principles, theories, concepts and applications
Apply international accounting standards in financial statements preparation
Recognize various accounting techniques and apply them in analyzing accounting data
Demonstrate the ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret information to make reasoned business decisions

Student Learning Outcomes

Have practical working knowledge of financial and managerial accounting
Know how to operate accounting software programs
Prepare accurate and well-organized financial statements in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS)
Analyze accounting data and provide accounting information for reports and analysis to assist in decision-making
Evaluate and communicate the reliability of organizations’ information by applying international professional standards
Critically analyze accounting information for short-term and long-term business decisions

Students pursuing an Accounting concentration at ACM are offered challenging and rewarding opportunities in Accounting in both government and private commercial enterprises. Graduates may pursue careers as junior accountants and auditors, bookkeepers, bank tellers, customer relation officers and or junior financial analysts in accounting firms, banks, insurance companies, non-profit organizations and government entities.

General Education Requirement (GEE) (9 credit hours):

Students must satisfy the requirements of the General Education as per the following conditions:

Courses must be drawn from the Liberal Arts Department and from the General Education areas below (refer to the Liberal Arts Department section in the ACM Course Catalogue).
The General Education areas are defined as:
1. English Language and Communications Skills
2. Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing
3. Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing
4. Interdisciplinary Ways of Knowing
Courses may also be drawn from math, science, and professional selective courses as offered by ACM and with the Director’s permission.
Courses that are already required under another category other than General Education Elective cannot be considered as a GEE course.
ACM has the right to advise a student on a specific course under the GEE category.
ACM has the right to assign some of the credits in the “General Education Requirement (GEE)” which are to be considered as part of the degree requirements in the form of course(s) available in the course catalogue (other than existing courses in the GEE category) with the Director’s approval. For example, Professional Selective Courses may be offered at ACM’s discretion as mandatory selective courses and considered part of the degree requirements.
