Diploma (Associate of Science Degree) in Computer Engineering Technology (CET)
Overview
The Computer Engineering Technology Program prepares graduates with knowledge, problem-solving ability, and hands-on skills to enter careers in embedded systems, networking, computer and electronics manufacturing, testing, evaluation, simulation, and maintenance of computer systems. The total credits required for graduation are 65 credits, normally achievable within two years of full-time study.

Program Educational Objectives

The Computer Engineering Technology Program is designed to prepare students for continued learning and successful careers. Within few years of graduation, our alumni are expected to:

  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to address and solve technical problems.
  • Effectively communicate, collaborate, and lead in diverse teams.
  • Advance their professional competencies to progress in their careers or pursue further education.
  • Consistently adhere to ethical values and exhibit social awareness in their professional endeavors.

Student Learning Outcomes

The Computer Engineering Technology Program adopts the “Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology – Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission” (ABET – ETAC) student outcomes. Graduates of Computer Engineering Technology must demonstrate:

  • An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature
  • An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results; and
  • An ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team
Career Opportunities
Graduates will be prepared for careers in embedded systems, networking, computer and electronics manufacturing, as computer engineering technicians, network specialists, engineering aides, plant maintenance personnel, and technical salespeople. These jobs are abundant in the oil and gas, electric power, telecommunication and networking, water, and transport industries.

General Education Requirement (GEE) (5 credits):

Students must satisfy the requirements of General Education as per the following conditions:

  1. Courses must be drawn from the Liberal Arts Department and from the General Education areas below (refer to the Liberal Arts Department section in the ACM Course Catalogue).
  2. The General Education areas are defined as follows:
    1. English Language and Communications Skills
    2. Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing
    3. Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing
    4. Interdisciplinary Ways of Knowing
  3. Courses may also be drawn from math, science, and professional selective courses as offered by ACM and with the Director’s permission.
  4. Courses that are already required under a category other than General Education Elective cannot be considered as a GEE course.
  5. ACM has the right to advise a student on a specific course under the GEE category.
  6. ACM has the right to assign some of the credits in the “General Education Requirement (GEE)” which are to be considered as part of the degree requirements in the form of course(s) available in the course catalogue (other than existing courses in the GEE category) with the Director’s approval. For example, Professional Selective and Internship Courses may be offered at ACM's discretion as mandatory selective to be considered as part of the degree requirements.
